More information about The Spectator
The Spectator was established in 1828, and is the oldest continuously published magazine in the English language. Our taste for controversy, however, remains undiminished. There is no party line to which our writers are bound - originality of thought and elegance of expression are the sole editorial constraints. The result, week after week, is that the best British journalists, critics, authors and cartoonists turn out their best work for the magazine, to produce an extraordinarily wide-ranging title.
If there's one thing we agree on at The Spectator, it's to differ. That's why every week our pages are packed with insightful opinion, commentary and analysis about current affairs, the arts and the big issues of the moment - and why we've maintained our position as a champion of intelligent writing for so long.
As a publication that continues to challenge its readers we're always looking for fresh thinking. That's why; in addition to our regular contributors such as Rod Liddle, Fraser Nelson, Deborah Ross, Alex James and Toby Young we entertain readers with new views from guest writers as diverse as Joan Collins and Barry Humphries. You may be surprised at what you find between our covers. But it's exactly our ability to give a voice to new opinions and diverse views from all sides of the fence that ensures The Spectator remains essential reading from boardroom to class room and from newsroom to living room.
If you enjoy good writing, strong opinions, and caustic reviews, then The Spectator is your magazine.
